Google Photos for Android to Support Copying When Sharing Soon

Key Points of This Article
  • The Android version of the “Google Photos” app is reportedly gaining support for copying images when sharing.
  • This feature allows users to copy images to the clipboard and paste them into SNS or messaging apps.
  • Interestingly, this feature is already available in the iOS version of “Google Photos.”

The Android version of Google’s online photo library service, “Google Photos,” is reportedly set to support copying images when sharing.

The image copying feature for the Android “Google Photos” app allows users to copy an image to the clipboard and paste it directly into SNS, messaging apps, and more. Previously, sharing an image involved selecting a specific app, which triggered a background process of temporary downloading and then uploading to that app. With this update, users will be able to copy the image to the clipboard and paste it wherever they like.

<activity
    android:theme="@style/Theme.Photos.ThemedTransparent"
    android:name="com.google.android.apps.photos.share.handler.system.NativeSharesheetCopyMediaToClipboardActionChipActivity"
    android:exported="false"
    android:noHistory="true"/>

This image copying feature is actually something that the iOS version of “Google Photos” already supports. Conversely, the current Android version of the “Google Photos” app does not yet support copying images during the sharing process.
