- A long-awaited feature is reportedly coming to “Google Messages.”
- The ability to copy a specific part of a message.
- An analysis of the app files for version v20260224_00_RC00 confirmed that descriptions regarding a partial message copy feature have been added.
A long-awaited feature is expected to be implemented in “Google Messages,” the SMS / MMS / RCS client app for Android.
This highly anticipated feature for “Google Messages” is the ability to copy a portion of a message. While Google Messages currently allows users to copy entire sent or received messages, the functionality to copy only a part of the text has not yet been implemented.
However, an analysis of the app files from the v20260224_00_RC00 update released on Friday, February 27, 2026, confirmed that strings related to a partial text copy feature have been added.
<string name="copy_partial_text_action">Copy partial text</string>
<string name="action_highlight_and_copy">Highlight to copy</string>
<string name="copy_partial_text_action">テキストの一部をコピー</string>
<string name="action_highlight_and_copy">ハイライトしてコピー</string>
Since the partial copy feature for “Google Messages” is already implemented internally within the app, it should begin rolling out to users soon.
